Thoughts And Musings For QUINTEssenTial Music
Ok. It wasn't really a sastisfactory concert yesterday. Stop smirking. I've been quite disappointed.
But, thier pieces were quite ok.
FRANZ SCHUBERT
String quintet in C major, D.956 (Op. 163)
1. Allergro ma non troppo
2. Adagio (NICE!!)
3. Scherzo. Presto- Trio. Andante sostenuto
4. Allegretto
DMITRI SCHOSTAKOVICH
Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57
1. Prelude: Lento
2. Fugue: Adagio
3. Scherzo: Allegretto
4. Intermezzo: Lento
5. Finale: Allegretto
Excuse me while I do some discussion with
myself.
Gina: Their first piece wasn't convincing. It lacks
expression. Gina:
Agreed. But their second piece was good. Really. Gina: Yes. Definately. The expressions were just flowing! And the tempo was well.
Gina: And I could
REALLY visualize a hint of clouds, as stated in the
Programme.
Gina: Yes Yes! That was marvelous! But there was a sudden change of mood in the middle. A fiery temper. That's what I thought. But it soothed down. I'll rate this piece, 8 out of 10.
Gina: Agreed.
Gina: The other pieces were
ok. But I really feel the quartet is more capable of that. And the piano acompaniment didn't do a good job too.
Gina: It felt... half-hearted. But as
Ling said, Performers have their downtime too.
Gina: Yea. I believe that T'ang Quartet has so much more capacity than that. Anyway, I like Prelude: Lento too.
Gina: Is it just me or do you prefer slow pieces?
Gina: Nah. It's you. Actually I DO prefer fast pieces. But this time round, the quartet could express better through their slow songs. And during
Lento, I felt a bit bored, so I closed my eyes to
feel the music better. And then I realised. It sounds so
mythical. I had an imagery of a moonlit garden, and images of nymphs and greek legends. Really a job well done. It actually sounded too good to be true.
Gina: Mmm. Must agree there with you though.
End of conversation with myself. Anyway, though I felt they weren't very involved this concert, I still have faith in them. If you'd went to The Bohemia Affair and From Bach To Madness, you'll understand what I mean. They're potential is super. I mean, like
they really have that
shiok factor in them
. And although this concert wasn't really
shiok, I know more concerts that keeps getting better each time those guys step onto the stage are coming my way. =) I've known TQ as a sincere, fantastic and
Tangible (yes, pun intended) quartet. I believe in that. And I know TQ won't disappoint me. =)
Anyway, here are some pictures.

Wanted to wear these pretty shoes when it snapped the second I'd stepped out of the door. Well I guess I could stick those diamantes on my iPod Mini.

So I changed into a pair of
strappy heels.

Went for dinner at Raffles City with concert
kahkis.

Excuse the
pink phone.

Notice how much
pink matches with
pink?!

On the way to The Esplanade.

Me and Whimsy. X))

Display at The Esplanade.

Before...

After. Hope I didn't scratched The Esplanade's floor.

Post concert truama. Amazed at Darth Vader's Purple M&Ms. X)
Miraculously my toes didn't get cut by the strap of my heels. I just got very red feet though.
